HOW TO MAKE

WATER KEFIR

HOMEMADE

Water kefir is a tangy, fizzy drink that is chock full of probiotics and other nutrients. The beneficial bacteria uses sugar dissolved in water to create a healthy drink.

*Water Kefir Grains *Sugar *Filtered Water *Fruit Juice, Diced Fruit or Ginger are optional

Make sure to use a raw sugar, like sucanat or turbinado for healthy growth of grains. And it is important to use filtered water.  Visit www.howewelive.com for important tips on growing healthy grains.

Warm 1 cup of filtered water, then dissolve sugar in it. Transfer the mixture to a jar, then add in the kefir grains and remaining water.

Set aside to ferment. Once fermented, strain out the water kefir grains to make another batch.

Allow to ferment for 24-48 hours, but not longer or else you may harm the kefir grains.

To create a fizzy, soda like water kefir, you will need to perform a second ferment. The second fermentation is done without the kefir grains, which are filtered out.

Enjoy your water kefir right away, storing in the fridge for up to 2-4 weeks as you drink the batch. It's so delicious though, it may not last that long!
